Uncertainty evaluation of seismic response for a nuclear facility

Choi, B.; Nishida, Akemi; Takada, Tsuyoshi*

no journal, ,

In this paper, in order to clarify the influence of difference due to modeling methods on the results of seismic response analysis for a nuclear facility, seismic response analysis using various earthquake events was conducted and the findings obtained from the uncertainty assessment of the response result due to the difference in modeling methods are reported.

no journal, ,

Understanding radiation field is important to predict radiation dose rate in newly constructing buildings in an area widely contaminated by radioactive nuclei. Radiation dose rate at the site is not sufficient, and directional spectra of the radiations are important to consider the shielding effect of the building. Radiation directional spectra can be measured by scintillator partially shielded by lead collimators but the angle of view highly depends on the combination of the scintillator and the collimators. We adopts a method to measure the directional spectra by adopting 3 inch scintillator with placing a plate of lead collimator in front of the scintillator and subtract the values from the spectra measured without lead collimator. We simulates the optimal size of the lead collimator and found that the 15 cm diameter plate placing at 3 cm from the scintillator is the best for our purpose, 90 degree angle of view.

A Study for evaluating local damage to RC panels subjected to oblique impact of soft missiles

Ota, Yoshimi*; Nishida, Akemi; Tsubota, Haruji

no journal, ,

Up to now, few impact tests oblique to the target structures have been carried out. This study has been conducted with the purpose of proposing a new formula for evaluating the local damage caused by oblique impacts based on previous experimental and simulation results. In this paper, the results of simulation analyses for evaluating the local damage to a RC panel subjected to oblique impacts by deformable projectile, by using the simulation method that the validity was confirmed through simulation analysis of past impact experimental results, were shown. Based on the results of these simulation analyses, the quantitative evaluation of reduction effects in the local damage caused by the differences of the impact angle and the impact velocity was investigated.

Application of an efficient evaluation method for predicting building function loss using ground motions with fault models

Igarashi, Sayaka*; Sakamoto, Shigehiro*; Ugata, Takeshi*; Nishida, Akemi; Takada, Tsuyoshi*

no journal, ,

The authors have investigated an efficient method for generating ground motions based on fault models detecting the optimal seismic intensity index which has good correlation with the seismic risk of the building. This method is based on the examination of the errors of generated ground-motions which are ordered by the damage probabilities of the system or by their seismic intensity indices. In this study, the errors were evaluated for some cases of an equipment system which has different weak equipment components in order to validate the method. As a result, the smallest error was obtained to the expected seismic intensity index of each system, and the validity of the proposed method was confirmed. The authors also indicated the workflow to conduct the seismic risk assessment for arbitrary building utilized the ground motions based on fault models.
